Accessibility statement

The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or circumstance. We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website.

The Society’s Inclusion and Diversity Advisory group, made up of representatives from different parts of the Society’s activities, meets twice a year. It reviews the inclusion and diversity elements of the Society’s activities and publications and reports to the Society’s Council.

Venue

The public access spaces of the RGS-IBG headquarters have accessible facilities, as follows:

• Direct access to the display Pavilion and Foyle Reading Room from Exhibition Road, the latter space via the passenger lift.

• Desks in both the Reception and Foyle Reading Room have been designed to take account of the needs of wheelchair users, as has the touch-screen controlling the plasma displays in the Pavilion, and the study tables in the Foyle Reading Room and Consultation Rooms.

• An enclosed platform lift to link areas between basements, which allows assisted access from the Foyle Reading Room to the ground floor Education suite and other rooms in the existing building.

• Three toilets, located near public access spaces, the Ondaatje Theatre, and ground floor Education facilities.

• A chairlift from the garden terrace to the garden.

• Refuge alarms in specified areas that are designated means of escape.

• A first aid room in the Theatre foyer area.

• Induction loops and amplifiers in the Pavilion and Education Centre.

• A wheelchair platform lift allows access between the Ondaatje Theatre foyer and the ground floor of the heritage building.

• An access ramp is provided at the existing Kensington Gore entrance.
